I am an advisory board member of Education For All Children, a New Hampshire-based, non-profit that basically offers scholarships to Kenyan secondary students who qualify (need, academic achievement, etc.). It was started very recently by a couple from this area who fell in love with Kenya while traveling there. Please see our website.

Having worked in West African education, I am able to offer some insight into the educational (and managerial) process for Africa generally, but I think that the organization would greatly benefit from an RPCV from Kenya who could help orient the group on issues like ethnicity, political dynamics, regionalism, etc.

There are Kenyans participating from both the U.S. side and the Kenyan side (obviously), but I was thinking that having an American with the kind of in-depth knowledge an RPCV would possess would be a little more objective on some of these issues.

EFAC is well funded and driven by a motivated group with good ties in the NH business and philanthropic community—not always the case with start-up non-profits—so there is a high degree of professionalism looking to match up with good area knowledge to make sure that its efforts are both efficient and appropriate.

So, the question is, are there any Kenya RPCVs out there who might like to participate as a board member in a purely advisory manner (not that you couldn’t be more involved if you wanted)? If you live in northern New England, even better. Please shoot me an email at my work address.
