Special visitors from Kenya often prompt FOK dinner parties. Wangari Maathai was a guest speaker at one such event years before she won the Nobel Peace Prize. A Maasai performing troupe that was touring area schools enjoyed FOK food and hospitality in February 2005, entertaining FOK with traditional song and dance.
Keeping RPCVs informed about current events in Kenya is another goal of event planning. FOK sponsors panel discussions featuring embassy and government officials, as well as other experts on Kenya, at NPCA conferences. The FOK panel at the August 2004 conference in Chicago featured Kenyan runners and John Manners, FOK member and expert on Kenya’s phenomenal success at producing world-class runners. Fundraising, socializing, staying in touch--these too are cause for gatherings. Friends of Kenya members often meet in areas across the country for a variety of activities. 45th Peace Corps Anniversary National Gathering in September 2006 marks the 45th Anniversary of Peace Corps Service, and NPCA plans to celebrate 45 events nationwide. The 45th event—a national gathering—will take place in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 15-16, 2006. – from the NPCA website. NPCA also will hold its Annual General Meeting, Group Leaders Forum and Board of Directors meetings. More information will be posted as it becomes available. NPCA contact: operations@rpcv.org. Friends of Kenya will host an event for RPCVs from Kenya as part of the Washington, D.C., national gathering. Check this Web site for coming details. Conference Calls The FOK Board of Directors holds a conference call at 9 p.m. ET on the second Sunday of each month. Events
